Required Permits for Manaslu Round Trek

Since Manaslu Round Trek is a Restricted Area, due to which it requires Restricted Area Permit; because it lies in the border of China/Tibet.  Anyhow, this keeps the numbers down.

  • RAP.
    It’s off-peak seasons although this could modification. The stop in is in Jagat and checkpoint out at Dharapani.
  • The rules state minimum two folks + registered guide.

When to go

The best time to trek during this region is from March to may, once the clear skies provide the most effective views. The months of June and July are monsoon season and have a tendency to be troublesome because of significant rains and swollen rivers that usually wash away several of the domestically created footbridges. September to December is peak time, because it provides the most effective weather as well as endless clear skies and pleasing temperatures, even at high altitude.

Itinerary


  • 1
  • Day 1 Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
  • You will be met at the airport by our Him Ganga Treks representative and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. Rest at the hotel and briefing about the trip. There should be time to explore the city’s many charms on your own too. Overnight (O/N) in Kathmandu (breakfast included).

  • Day 2 Drive to Sotikhola (700m), 8 - 9 hrs.
  • Jeep to Sotti Khola along beautiful landscapes of rice fields and traditional villages of Nepal. Meeting with our porters and / or start trekking if the track does not reach the Lodge. Night in a fixed camp.

  • Day 3 Trek to Machakhola trek (930 m),5 - 6 hrs.
  • First day of trekking , often hot, which takes place in valley bottom. Progression through beautiful villagesset between subtropical forests, bamboos and terraced crops . This is an opportunity to discover the small local crafts, fishermen in the river, to enjoy a glass of sugar cane juice … Installation at the lodge in Machhakhola.

  • Day 4 Trek to Jagat (1,340 m), 7- 8 hrs.
  • We cross the Machhakhola, then pass to Khorlabesi along the Bhuri Gandaki. An hour later we arrive at Tatopani where a suspension bridge allows us to change banks. Past Dobhan, we continue along a nice plateau until Shiauli Bhoti. Steep climb to Yaruphant. Crossing the Yaru Khola then crossing on the right bank of the Bhuri Gandaki. The trail then joins Jagat (the wall), a real entry point into the Manaslu Conservation Area . Beautiful paved path and first chorten.

  • Day 5 Tre to Deng (1930 m) 6 - 7hrs
  • Climb right bank crossing the villages of Saleri and Sirdibas until the bridge under Philim. The path becomes a balcony path to Ekle Bathi (1620 m); beautiful view of the village of Pansing. For an hour the trail is carved into the cliff above an impressive gorge. In Pewa (1750 m), the valley opens to offer a beautiful panorama on the massif of Ganesh Himal . The tropical vegetation gives way to alpine vegetation. Crossing deep gorges of Bhuri Gandaki on an iron bridge. At this place you are in the heart of gigantic mountains with vertiginous walls… The path evolves between wooded areas and rocky areas, the vegetation changes gradually. Still some small wooden bridges and it is the arrival to the village of Deng where the Tibetan influence is already felt , as much by the architecture than by facies of the villagers, or even the prayer wheels .

  • Day 6 Trek to Namrung (2550 m) 7hrs
  • From Deng, a short descent leads to a bridge over Bhuri Gandaki, followed by a chaotic steep path that joins the pathway under the Bihi plateau. Detour possible in Bihi , beautiful village surrounded by a wall mani , here the valley opens with beautiful terraces. At Suksam you can admire beautiful giant spruces . The valley tightens again before a last steep climb to reach Namrung, a particularly typical village.

  • Day 7 Trek to Lho Gaon (3110 m) 5hrs
  • After the superb cultivated plateau that crosses the hamlets of Baksan, Lihi and Wangsang, we walk in the background, the immaculate Manaslu , contrasting with the color of the fields. The path soon arrives at Shyo, offering us beautiful views of the Ganesh and the Himal Chuli . We pass a beautiful series of chortensand mani walls . Arrived at Lho, we visit the village, the school and its small monastery, then we settle at the lodge for the night.

  • Day 8 Trek to Sama Gompa (3420 m) 4hrs
  • At the exit of the village of Lho Gaon, the path descends towards the river before taking a steep path that crosses a beautiful softwood forest to reach Shyala. The path, superb, continues in balcony towards the splendid plateau of Sama. The great peaks surround us and we settle in a lodge in the heart of the Tibetan village of Sama.

  • Day 9 Day Hike to Pungyan Gompa (4200 m)4-5 hrs.
  • Day devoted to acclimatization! For those who wish, possibility to stay to rest in Sama Gompa. For others, if the weather is good, it is possible to go to the glaciers and the background of the circus Ramanan Kharka(4300 m) by entering the beautiful Pugyen Valley . In good weather, it is an unforgettable day in a circus sparkling with whiteness, at the foot of gigantic and majestic peaks: Peak 29, Manaslu, Himal Chuli . Here we are in the heart of the great Himalayas, surrounded by giant faces in which the man only risks himself very rarely! Return to the same lodge as the day before.

  • Day 10 Trek to Samdo (3800 m) 3/4hrs
  • Morning visit of the monastery and possibility to climb towards the glacial lake of Birendra Kund , located at the foot of the Manaslu glacier. Easy walk to Kermo Manan (very long wall to mani ), the alpine style valley climbs gently towards the typically Tibetan village . Crossing a small bridge, then a short and steep climb to reach the most beautiful village of the tour: Samdo (200 inhabitants). Tibet is close by Lajing Banjyang. The people of Samdo, of Tibetan origin, still trade regularly with families and grandparents living in Tibet. Discover this beautiful and welcoming village, rest.

  • Day 11 Trek to Dharmashala (4460 m) 3/4hrs
  • Climb to the barracks of Dharmashala by a path in balcony (4460 m). It is important to leave early because of the many intermittent torrents, which get bigger as the sun goes up! Lunch at camp, afternoon rest or walk in one of the combes upstream of the camp, in pursuit of “Blue sheep”. The fixed camp is equipped with beds in several tents, toilet tents and a mess tent with tables and chairs, as at the lodge.

  • Day 12 Trek to Bhimthang,Larkya La (5030 m} (3600 m) 8/9hrs
  • Early departure. Following a moraine , the path leads to a large glacial lake and then arrives on a large plateau. Beautiful views of huge glaciers and the north face of Manaslu . Arrival at Larkya Pass in about 4 hours. Unique views of the Himalung Himal, the Kang Guru, and further the Annapurna II . After the pass, the path climbs slightly further in the rock gardens, just to pass the 5000 m altitude, before diving into the steep and often snowy western face. Passage to Larcia (4700 m) then Tabuche, places-say! The path joins a lateral moraine near the gigantic glacier descending from the circus Peri Himal. Arrival on the green plateau of Bimtang, located in a circus surrounded by peaks with sparkling ice. Well deserved rest in a rustic lodge.

  • Day 13 Trek to Ghowa (2250 m) 6 -7 hrs.
  • Long descent, varied. From the glacier zone the path crosses immense forests with gigantic spruces interspersed with alpine meadows . Views of the peaks of Manaslu and the Peri Himal massif . Then, take place beautiful altitude cultures before reaching the village of Tilje nestled above the gorge. The trail joins again the exuberance of the tropical forest (giant rhododendrons, lichens, mosses …). Last moments of descent along the Dudh Khola before the junction with the Marsyangdi Khola. After Tonje, the path joins Dharapani (and the Annapurna tour at the same time).

  • Day 14 Trek to Dharapani and drive to Besi sahar.
  • A long day awaits us, it will be necessary to get up early !!! Change of means of locomotion , we climb in Jeeps that go down along the gorges of the Marsyangdi , to the big market town of Besisahar (bazaar alive and teeming with activities). From there, we take a bus that takes us directly to Kathmandu, crossing beautiful landscapes of rice terraces , against the backdrop of the snowy peaks of Annapurnas and Manaslu. Installation at the hotel in the evening and last dinner together .

  • Day 15 Drive to Kathmandu.
  • Free morning in Kathmandu . The guide stays with the group (but can not divide if everyone goes on his side …). Appointment for the lunch, then according to the schedule of the return flight to France, we take a little time to hang out or we leave directly for the airport to take our flight home
